Welcome back Sunflower families!

We are alight with new learning in the Sunflower classroom! As we’ve come to celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday this month, we strengthened our informational text reading skills, writing, and presentation skills. The students’ opportunity to share works they are proud of with one another is especially motivating to do their best work. We encourage parents to talk to their children about these moments of presenting to their classmates.

Science content includes our continuing examination of nature’s life cycles, both plants and animals. We are also exploring biomes, this time with a focus on Africa. Our Masterpiece Artist, Sandra Larson, helps us bridge this study to artistic renditions of animals they have individually chosen to represent. In adding research and writing, we bridge to Language Development skill, then practice verbal presentation, sharing with each other. As a culminating aspect of this work, we will be presenting this project at the STEM fest, Celebration of Learning, Power Campus on Saturday, February 1st. This presentation does not require us to be physically present in order to represent our work.

Thank you to the many parents that came to the Parent Conferences last week! Within these, we are emphasizing the theme of how important it is to have a strong sense of team in the home/school relationship. In order to provide significant ideas and strategies that can take place at home, I’ve especially emphasized the small purchase of the www.getepic.com app.

Our Epic Class Code: enb8835

The children love learning through videos aligned to the State’s Core Standards (helps with testing) and a vast library of books on all levels and topics. These include the Read to Me choices for our emergent readers. Further, I am able to assign individual works to each child for their easy reference in their personal mailbox. The “complete” buttons serve as a tracking record to know where each child individually stands.   If paying is not an option, I also recommend the free program on www.starfall.com to strengthen reading skills, a very important foundation for your child’s lifelong learning. Further, a popular free math program can be found at https://www.prodigygame.com. Finally, www.typingclub.com is a program that some children are finding they enjoy to help them learn typing skills.

Arizona Tax Credit– Donation Opportunity

The tax credit program is the perfect way to give and support San Tan Charter School. The program is a win/win for everyone. By redirecting your tax dollars, you will support special programs at San Tan Charter School such as Music Education and STEM, which each student participates in and Physical Education including Character Education, in which students participate in daily. It also helps support our Library and computer lab time for our students.

The best part, is whatever you contribute, you will receive dollar for dollar back on your state taxes. So, if you give $100, you can deduct that $100 off what you owe in taxes. If you are a married couple, you may only contribute up to $400. If you are single, the total amount that you can contribute is $200. A one-time contribution is also wonderful.

Our Private Montessori School gives out around $45,000.00 a year in scholarship to those families in need, we are able to offer these scholarships because of the Arizona Private School tax credit program. The best part is whatever you contribute, you will receive dollar for dollar back on your state taxes with this program as well. So, if you give $500, you can deduct that $500 off what you owe in taxes. If you are a married couple, you may contribute up to $1,138. If you are single, the total amount that you can contribute is $569. Here is the live link for the Private School Tax Credit:
