Our Spring science-based Learning Celebration took place Saturday, February 1st at the Power campus. Indeed, there was a wealth of learning represented! The Sunflower theme, “Exploring Our Natural World” reflected the classroom learning process. We began with an introduction to biomes.  With our focus on Africa, our continent of this month, we then specifically looked at the Grasslands/Savannah.  Your child chose one animal to make art and research and write about.  Then, extended learning has come through selecting a subject of science of their choice and making a book.  This has involved rough draft writing, editing, and final presentations of their work to the class.  Each child loves being on the hot-seat and receiving the attention of their peers for work they are proud of.  Presentation Skills are recognized as part of the new 21st Learning Skills of increasing import. We’ve been doing this through keeping connected to themes of harmony with nature and one another.

Art Masterpiece, with Mrs. Larson and Mr. Franco, has been an especially enjoyable element of cross-connected learning. Mrs. Larson exposed us to the artwork of Alma Woodsey.

Ms. Woodsey is an African American artist with work in the permanent collection at the White House. The students learned about her through the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsmBVMKbgUs&t=179s

This focus provided a natural and meaningful bridge coming from a study of African during January and moving into a Celebration of African-American achievements in February. Further, it produced some amazing children’s art! Please take a look at the photos to see for yourself. You will have a chance to enjoy this artistry in a personal touch through our Art to Remember project where we keepsakes are made for you to treasure.

Sewing Projects:  Special Thanks to Ms. Bergener for brining the supplies for sewing individual pouches with a heart or star for each student.  Her support during our afternoon recess time has especially meant a lot in this project that so many children are loving!

Arizona Tax Credit– Donation Opportunity

The tax credit program is the perfect way to give and support San Tan Charter School’s goal of $93,750.00. The program is a win/win for everyone. By redirecting your tax dollars, you will support special programs at San Tan Charter School such as Music Education and STEM, which each student participates in and Physical Education including Character Education, in which students participate in daily. It also helps support our Library and computer lab time for our students. At the Junior High and High School levels this helps support our amazing electives offerings.

The best part, is whatever you contribute, you will receive dollar for dollar back on your state taxes. So, if you give $100, you can deduct that $100 off what you owe in taxes. If you are a married couple, you may only contribute up to $400. If you are single, the total amount that you can contribute is $200. A one-time contribution is also wonderful.
